Clenching and pressing on the teeth
The Anti-Press-MiniSplint (APS) was developed by Prof. Sailer to eliminate pain while chewing and to prevent the formation of a wide face. The Anti-Press-MiniSplint gives relief from headaches and migraine, prevents clenching of teeth and relaxes the chewing muscles in sleep.
Complaints

Numerous complaints are triggered by clenching or pressing of teeth, e. g.
- headache on one side or both sides in various regions of the head,
- Pressure behind or in the eyes,
- Pressure in the ears,
- Clicking or snapping sound in the joints of the jaw while yawning or while chewing,
- radiating pain from the various muscles of the masticatory system,
- Pain in the region of the floor of the mouth and the tongue or
- tongue thrusting, which can be easily recognised by the teeth impressions along the edge of the tongue.
Damages to the teeth by clenching and pressing of teeth
The teeth could get ground good and proper, and the patient lose biting height as a consequence, which in turn causes increased pressure on the jaw joints and make the lips appear longer, because they do not reveal the upper teeth during speaking.
Clenching of teeth under stress
In today's stress laden times, stringent demands at work and sport lead to involuntary teeth clenching. This results in an overload on the chewing system and the muscles involved. There are certain groups of professions which predispose one particularly to clenching of teeth. Especially those that involve working with a computer, but also those who undergo intensive physical training (e. g. weight lifting, jogging, biking, bodybuilding), which is often associated with unconscious clenching of the teeth.
When clenching of teeth becomes a habit
Often, people clench their teeth without any obvious reason, which is called "habitual parafunctions". Patients suffering from migraines or depressions or those who need to take anti-depressants are particularly prone to unconscious clenching of teeth.
The Anti-Press-MiniSplint
The Anti-Press-MiniSplint that we have developed, and which is inserted in the region of the lower front teeth, is an immediate relief to all these. The Anti-Press-MiniSplint is transparent and barely visible, and can be worn day and night if necessary. It also enables the user to speak without lisping. It is removed while eating. The Anti-Press-MiniSplint is made individually in our laboratory to suit every patient.
The patient will feel a change in the tensed muscles involved in chewing soon after wearing the splint. After that, he will slowly form a reflex mechanism which helps in avoiding teeth clenching to a great extent. The Anti-Press-MiniSplint is also effective in patients who have been clenching their teeth for decades, and are suffering from headaches, migraine, visual impairment, stress and exhaustion as a result.
