Snoring and Sleep-apnoea can be healed |
|
Snoring can be the first sign of sleep apnoea, a life-threatening disease about which the public should be alerted. Recognisable symptoms of sleep apnoea are permanent fatigue both night and day, reduced physical and mental performance, micro-sleep, sudden sleep during car-driving and hypertension, to name a few. The main symptoms include breathing interruptions or apnoea of various lengths during sleeping. An exact diagnosis of the severity of the disease is provided by sleep-laboratory investigation. Special cephalograms, computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can reveal the narrow airways, which are responsible for the disease. Often patients with snoring and suspected sleep apnoea have a small chin and mandible or a double chin, leading to an unattractive facial appearance. Professor Sailer has perfected a unique procedure called rotation advancement, which opens up these narrow airways. The rotation moves the jaws and the chin forward, giving the patient a highly attractive appearance and eliminating snoring. No outer scars are visible as the procedure is exclusively performed through the mouth. Rotation advancement is a new dimension in treatment combining functional and aesthetic aspects. This is the only technique currently in existence that can completely heal snoring and sleep apnoea. Rotation advancement of the jaws is performed routinely under general anaesthesia, followed by a hospital stay of five to six days. The operation is not painful but is accompanied by facial swelling. In the first few days after the operation, the patient is only able to drink liquids and eat soft food. For overweight patients, this can lead to a welcome weight loss. After three weeks, the patient can return to work. Our patients are hospitalized in the Privat Klinik Bethanien, member of Swiss Leading Hospitals. |
