Scar Treatment
As the largest organ in the human body, the skin is exposed to a variety of risks of injury throughout life. When injuries to the skin occur, scars remain that accompany us throughout our lives and tell our story. But not every memory deserves a permanent place on our skin. Depending on their size, placement and appearance, scars can be perceived as disturbing and have a negative impact on our self-confidence. If this is the case, gentle scar removal can give you a new lease of life and help you to finally feel comfortable in your own skin again.

The most frequently asked questions
What are the most common causes of scars on the face?
Scars on the face can result from acne, skin conditions (such as chickenpox), injuries (e.g., cuts or burns), or surgical procedures. These scars can be aesthetically bothersome and impact psychological well-being.
What types of scars are there in the facial area?
- Keloid scars: Raised, itchy scars that grow beyond the original wound.
- Hypertrophic scars: Raised, red scars that may improve over time.
- Atrophic scars: Depressed scars, such as those left by acne.
- Normal scars: Flat scars that fade over time.
What treatment options are available for scars on the face?
SailerClinic offers personalized treatments, including:
- Laser therapy: Promotes collagen production and reduces the visibility of scars.
- Microdermabrasion: Removal of the top layer of skin to improve skin texture.
- Chemical peels: Refine skin texture and reduce scars.
- Injections: Treatment of hypertrophic and keloid scars or fillers for atrophic scars.
- Surgical removal: For severely pronounced scars.
- Microneedling: Stimulates the body’s natural regeneration and improves skin quality.
How long does scar treatment take, and when will I be fit for everyday life again?
The treatment typically takes 1–2 hours. You will be fit for everyday life again after about 3–4 days.
What aftercare is required after scar treatment?
For optimal results, you should carefully follow the aftercare instructions provided by your doctor. This includes suture removal, special dressings, and possibly lymphatic drainage. Visible improvement in the skin appearance can be seen after just a few weeks.
How do I find the right treatment method for my scar?
In a personal consultation, the team at SailerClinic will analyze your individual situation. Based on the type, location, and size of your scar, as well as your preferences, a customized treatment plan will be created. The goal is to sustainably improve your quality of life and self-confidence.
What Are Scars?
Scars are the result of the wound-healing process, in which the body reconstructs damaged tissue with fibrotic replacement tissue. The appearance and type of scar that forms depend on the type and depth of the injury, the nature of the skin and its healing process. The treatment methods are as varied as the ways in which scars form and look. If there is pronounced scarring, scar surgery may be necessary.
Types of Facial Scars
What types of scars are most common on the face?
Keloid scars:
Keloid scars are usually raised, can itch and therefore feel uncomfortable. They develop when the tissue grows beyond the wound during the wound-healing process.
Hypertrophic scars:
Hypertrophic scars are raised and reddish to dark red in colour. They usually do not grow beyond the wound and can improve over time.
Atrophic scars:
In the case of atrophic scars, not enough tissue is regenerated during the healing process, which is why a depression forms on the skin. The most well-known example of atrophic scars are acne scars.
‘Normal’ scars:
Normal scars are flat and fade or disappear over time. As a rule, they are inconspicuous and only slightly impair the aesthetic appearance.

Causes of Facial Scars
Scars on the face can arise for a number of different reasons:
Acne:
Inflammatory acne can cause extensive skin damage that remains visible as scars after healing.
Skin diseases:
Diseases such as chickenpox and/or skin infections often result in scars.
Injuries:
Burns, cuts and various traumatic injuries can cause scarring.
Surgical procedures:
Finally, facial surgery often leaves visible scars.
Psychological Impact of Facial Scars
Facial scars can have a profound impact on a person’s life and represent much more than just an aesthetic challenge. The potential emotional effects range from a more negative self-image to an altered social appearance, which has a noticeable effect on the quality of life. Visible scars can have a lasting impact on young adults in particular, affecting their personal development and self-confidence.
Professional scar removal or scar correction can help to significantly improve psychological well-being. Depending on your needs, it can be performed surgically or with a laser to restore your aesthetic appearance.
Facial Scar Treatment
Every scar treatment is specially tailored to your individual situation. The location, size and type of scar play just as important a role as your personal wishes and needs.
Common Methods of Scar Treatment:
Laser Therapy:
Laser treatment is one of the most effective methods of removing scars. It improves the appearance of the skin by removing the top layer of skin and stimulating the layers of skin beneath. The procedure promotes the production of collagen, softening scars and making them less visible.
Microdermabrasion:
In microdermabrasion, fine crystals are used to remove the top layers of skin, which improves skin texture and reduces the atrophic appearance of scars.
Chemical Peels:
In chemical scar treatment, a solution is applied to the skin of the face, causing the top layer of skin to be removed. This refines the skin structure and improves the appearance of the scars.
Injections:
Injections of corticosteroids can be used to treat hypertrophic and keloid scars in a targeted manner and reduce scar growth. Thanks to modern fillers, sunken areas of some atrophic scars can also be harmoniously levelled out and thus visually improved.
Chirurgical Removal:
For very pronounced scars, scar surgery is usually unavoidable. Surgical treatment of scars makes sense when the external appearance of the face is severely affected. The experts at the SailerClinic use a variety of methods for this, including the extreme eversion method according to Sailer, which makes scars almost invisible.
Microneedling:
Microneedling activates the body’s own regeneration processes through precise micro-stimulation, which leads to a natural improvement in skin quality.
