Craniofacial
Surgery
Craniofacial surgery encompasses all acquired and congenital changes affecting the cranial and facial area. In addition, craniofacial surgery is also used for facial feminisation, with complex, comprehensive reconstructive procedures being performed to harmonise the aesthetics and function of the cranial area. The name is derived from the term ‘cranium’ for skull and ‘facies’ for face.
Services of Craniofacial Surgery at SailerClinic
Congenital malformations, accidents or tumours can significantly impair the aesthetics and function of the body. Craniofacial surgery (also known as reconstructive surgery) can alleviate or completely eliminate these complaints. Craniofacial surgery is used to restore the natural functioning and aesthetics of the face, hands and skin, and can achieve excellent results.
Craniofacial Surgery at SailerClinic
The SailerClinic’s Craniofacial Surgery Department deals with a wide range of complaints, using targeted treatments to restore the body’s own functions and an aesthetic appearance. The possibilities of reconstructive surgery are extremely diverse and always depend on the individual wishes and needs of our patients. Our team’s aim is to achieve the best possible results for you, thus sustainably improving your quality of life.
Craniofacial Anomalies
The treatment of craniofacial malformations makes it possible to specifically correct congenital anomalies in the skull and facial area. With the latest techniques, harmonious results can be achieved that improve both function and aesthetics.
Dysgnathia
Correcting dysgnathia not only improves aesthetics but also enhances health. Targeted procedures can address issues such as snoring, sleep apnea, or chewing problems, while restoring a harmonious facial profile.
Cleft Lip and Palate
The treatment of cleft lip and palate not only improves aesthetics but also functionality in areas such as speaking, swallowing, and hearing. Early intervention can promote normal development and significantly enhance quality of life.

Growth Disorders
Growth disorders in the craniofacial area can range from mild jaw malformations to complex syndromes like Crouzon or Apert syndrome. A tailored treatment approach helps improve both functionality and aesthetics, significantly enhancing quality of life.
Philosophy of the SailerClinic
‘Every person has their own individual beauty, which they can enhance at any time if required’
The Treatment Spectrum at SailerClinic
The spectrum of craniofacial surgery at the SailerClinic includes not only purely aesthetic procedures, but also extremely complex reconstructive surgery. This is used for a variety of acquired and congenital diseases.
Anomalies Corrected Through Complex Surgical Procedures
Craniofacial surgery includes the sub-disciplines of reconstructive accident and tumour surgery, the treatment of mild and extreme deformities, as well as secondary and primary cleft lip and palate surgery of the anterior skull base. We also perform corrective surgery for congenital or acquired facial deformities (e.g. syndromes or cleft jaws and faces).
Primary and Secondary Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery
We perform cleft lip and palate surgery according to the Zurich Protocol co-developed by Professor Sailer. Secondary cleft surgery also plays a fundamental role, as it contributes significantly to optimising the overall result. In this process, the jaw is correctly positioned and extensive soft tissue corrections are made to the nose and lip. These procedures are not optional aesthetic enhancements, but rather contribute essentially to improving the quality of life of our patients.
The Field of Anterior Cranial Base Surgery
In the area of anterior skull base surgery, the most serious forms of deformity (e.g. complex syndromes such as Crouzon’s syndrome, craniosynostosis and hypertelorism) are treated and skull base fractures and tumours are cared for. Tumours that grow into the skull base from the paranasal sinuses, the upper jaw or the orbital region represent a particular challenge.
For years, the SailerClinic has been able to prove itself in this demanding field. The surgical methods we have developed are carried out without externally visible incisions or scarring and are applied by our specially trained medical specialists. This means that surgical procedures can be carried out without disfiguring the face.
What Methods Are Used in Craniofacial Surgery?
Craniofacial surgery uses a wide range of innovative techniques. For example, expander techniques make it possible to obtain additional tissue for reconstructions, while flap techniques allow the restoration of complex structures with tissue that is well supplied with blood.
Are There Risks Associated with Craniofacial Surgery?
Treatment at the SailerClinic is carried out according to the highest medical standards, ensuring reliable results. However, every surgical procedure always involves a certain risk, which means that accompanying symptoms cannot be ruled out. This also applies to craniofacial surgery, which is why we discuss potential side effects with you before your treatment and give you recommendations for optimal pre- and aftercare.
Do Visible Scars Remain After Craniofacial Surgery?
Scars cannot be completely ruled out with craniofacial surgery. The extent of the resulting scars in the facial area varies depending on the required procedure, although we try to avoid visible scarring as much as possible. What should not be underestimated is conscientious aftercare by the patient, which can significantly reduce scarring.
Costs of Craniofacial Surgery
The costs associated with craniofacial surgery are as varied as the methods themselves. It is not possible to determine a flat rate, as each patient must be treated individually. Therefore, not only the individually required treatment but also the costs arising from the treatment are determined in a personal consultation.
